Pipeline Engineer
The Project Engineer will be primarily responsible for designing, developing, analyzing and managing complex pipeline and compression projects in Ghana. The successful candidate must be a self-motivator with a high capacity to learn. The qualified candidate will have an expertise in engineering design, procurement, and commissioning related to piping, mineral processing and slurry transportation systems to support our ongoing services to mining, utility, and private industry clients.
Qualifications
• 3-5 years of related experience in pipeline and facility design/construction experience
• Knowledge of industry codes/standards, permitting and safety requirements (CFR 192, API, ASME, etc.)
• Ability to oversee the development of pipeline alignment sheets, facility P&IDs, process flow
diagrams and piping isometrics
• Willingness to work for a fast-paced private equity company
• Must have computer skills and proficiency using MS Office
• Must be a team player with excellent communication skills
Responsibilities
- Prepare project funding documents such as cost estimates, equipment bid summaries and authorization requests
- Develop project scoping documents such as routing studies, construction methodology, design criteria, and alignment sheets
- Direct detailed engineering by junior staff including line hydraulic calculations and equipment sizing and specifications
- Design of alternative instruction methods including HDD, micro-tunneling, and jack and bore
- Work with other disciplines within pipeline engineering for “outside the fence construction”, including land permitting, environmental regulations, and geotechnical impacts
- Provide field project coordination, engineering services and troubleshooting with direct client interface
- Write or oversee technical reports and specifications including backfill, grading, road, and other civil design
- Manage mid to large-size projects and teams up to $50MM in total installed cost.
- Contribute to projects with major focus in leadership of technical excellence or project management for larger or more complex projects
- Mentor junior staff
- For smaller design projects act in both the PM and technical roles
- Understand and implement civil improvements such as storm water collection and design, cut & fill grading
- Understanding of Pipeline Hazardous Materials and Safety Administration
- Project management experience, certification preferred
- Solid organization and time management abilities
- Authorization to work in the United States

- Willingness to travel internationally as dictated by project demands
- Pass a pre-employment physical including a drug screening and background check
- Provide engineering, project management and construction support for upstream, midstream pipeline projects, and compressor facilities from conceptualization through commissioning
- Oversee the design and implementation of pipelines, station piping, equipment foundations, compressors, buildings, tank farms, gas processing skids, etc.
- Oversee and direct third-party consultants and contractors
- Develop and review detailed equipment/material specifications and scopes of work
- Analyze equipment/material bids and make purchase order recommendations to management
- Conduct and Chair project meetings including preparing agendas, and preparing meeting minutes
- Review Client's technical documentation and requirements.
- Ensure an adequate standard of technical documentation and contribute in updating Company standards.
- Review the Client’s technical documents during the bid phase.
- Prepare the design basis/CTRs for the pipeline design and interface with the relative process and structures and installation.
- Prepare the technical specifications and data sheets for material purchasing.
- Check the results of surveys carried out by sub-contractors.
- Optimize the laying route.
- Assist with the selection of laying spread/methods and perform/review installation design analysis for the pipeline system.
- Oversee the bid evaluation and procurements phases.
- Compile the alignment sheets and design manual.
- Verify and act upon the remarks of the Client/Certifying Body.
- Assist the pipeline lead or the project engineering manager for solving technical problems arising during project development and for interfacing/supporting the procurement department
- Perform/verify all discipline analyses and calculation notes required to design the pipelines system, including the engineering activities of third parties/sub-contractors.
- Define standards and procedures for the relative engineering area and contribute to software evaluations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- A Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) license or registration would be desirable but is not essential.
- Demonstrate specific knowledge and practice of ASME B31.4 & 8 and applicable pipelines ASME standards, design, construction, operation, pipelines analysis.
- Some experience with natural gas gathering and midstream pipelines/facilities
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of project engineering and pipeline projects.
- Experience managing pipeline projects
- Processing experience including: Stabilization and Mechanical Refrigeration Units
- Experience with all or some of the following software packages: Ariel’s performance software, Synergi Gas Modeling, MS Project, Google Earth, AutoCAD, and Pipeline Toolbox
- Knowledge of pipeline, and tank gas codes and regulations
Education
- Must have a B.S/M. S in Mechanical, Electrical, Petroleum or Chemical Engineering
