Centre for the Alleviation of Poverty, the Environment and Child Support (CAPECS)
BackgroundCentre for the Alleviation of Poverty, the Environment and Child Support (CAPECS) was founded in August, 2009 to respond to the need for a local NGO to save our environment using practical demonstrative and community participation techniques. CAPECS is also in to building the capacity of rural dwellers, with the view to widening their livelihood opportunities, promoting health and nutrition, education and protecting the rights of citizens.Prior to the establishment of CAPECS, some of the founders have received funds from the Ghana Aids Commission and successfully implemented HIV/AIDs campaign programmes in the Sissala West District under the auspices of CHOU BALLU RUDIP, a local NGO.
Founders of CAPECS have also worked as staff of the Network for Sustainable Development (NSD) in the successful implementation of JICA sponsored CHPS project in the Upper West Region. They have also successfully implemented capacity building/income generating activities project with beneficiaries as women engaged in petty trading and shea butter extraction under the Women’s Centre for Capacity Building, the Environment and Sanitation.
They were also engaged in Aids campaigns as part of their activities with women groups. CAPECS is currently searching for partners who buy into our course and ready to assist meet our objectives and vision.Organizational StatusThe status of CAPECS is implementing projects and programmers using citizen participation approaches that put beneficiaries of development interventions at the centre of decision-making and participation in activities.Funding sourcesWe currently have no funding sources ASIDE the contributions of the initiators of the centreAreas of interest Capacity Building/Advocacy Rights Protection and Promotion Community nutrition and health Poverty Alleviation Environmental Protection and Preservation Basic Education Community Mobilization Conflict Resolution and Peace Building.
