Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly
Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly (UMKDA) is the highest Political and Administrative body in the District. The Assembly is made up of Thirty Six (36) Member General Assembly consisting of Twenty Five (25) elected members, Eleven (11) government appointees and the District Chief Executive and one Member of Parliament.
The General Assembly has both Deliberative and Executive functions presided over by the Presiding Member who is elected by at least Two-thirds of the members of the General Assembly from among themselves. The Assembly works through its Executive Committee with Seven (7) members and the District Chief Executive as its chairman.
The Executive Committee operates through the following sub committees: 1. Development Planning Sub-committee 2. Works sub-committee 3. Finance and Administration sub-committee 4. Justice and Security Sub-committee 5. Social Services Sub-committee These sub-committees have the responsibility of deliberating on specific issues related to their area of operation and submitting their recommendations to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee intends presents them to the General Assembly for further deliberations and adoption.
The day to day administration of the District operationalizing the decisions taken by the General Assembly is conducted by the Central Administration. This consists of the Core Staff of the District Assembly and the Decentralized Departments under the leadership of the District Coordinating Director.
There is an established District Planning and Coordinating Unit (DPCU) consisting of the District Coordinating Director as its chairperson, the key staff of the District Assembly and Heads of Departments including, Health, Education, Community Development and Social Welfare, Agriculture, and a representative of the General Assembly that provide technical services as well as secretarial duties to the Assembly. .
