About 1000 students from two institutions in the Central region have been schooled on creative ways to start up enterprises to make a living.
The programme 'Entrepreneurs Go To Schools' Tour was part of activities to mark Global Entrepreneurship celebration week was organized by the Local Enterprises and Skills Development (LESDEP) to educate students on practical ways to start up incoming generating activities.
The beneficiary institutions include the Biriwa Vocational Institute and the Cape Coast Technical Institute.
The Managing Director of Yewodze Enterprise, Mr Kwasi Doudu-Amponsah who lectured the students at separate assemblies said it was time to believe in themselves and their creative and innovative abilities as Ghanaians to start up business.
He said it was important for the youth to appreciate the resources that God had given the nation and to use such resources to better our lives.
He noted that the taste for foreign products was a deterrent to the growth and development of local industries.
This he noted had led to the collapse of many of the local industries in the country and increased the level of unemployment in the country.
Mr Doudu-Amponsah said it was time to develop new taste for Ghanaian made products to ensure that the industries in the country survive and thrive noting that until that is done, there would be increasing numbers of unemployed youth.
He urged the youth to take their destinies into their own hands and use their creative abilities to start enterprises to provide employment for themselves and others.
Mr Doudu-Amponsah started a small soap making factory in 1985 and now supply four different brands of soap, palm kernel oil and coconut oil to several countries in West Africa, Europe and America.
He advised the youth to believe in themselves to achieve their goals in life.
The Central Regional Coordinator of LESDEP, Mr Edwin Okopti Sowah said government would commit to developing the entrepreneurial abilities of the youth to help them start their own businesses.
He advised the youth to take advantage of the various opportunities created by government to get the youth to earn incomes and improve their lives.
