Orange Egypt announced a project to increase energy efficiency on its network and reduce its carbon emissions. The plan aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 10,000 tons annually for 10 years, resulting in a significant saving in energy consumption.
The targets follow extensive technical studies and detailed measurements conducted over the past three years. The network energy efficiency project is part of a larger target at Orange Group to decrease emissions and fight climate change.
Orange Egypt collects Emission Reduction Units (ERUs) that can be traded, sold to other organizations, or donated to social responsibility activities, and these are reviewed and audited by independent international consultancy firms. The network energy efficiency project consists of a number of phases, most important of which is upgrading wireless telecom networks, broadening solar energy usage, and developing IT systems as well as lighting and transportation equipment. The project also includes a part to educate employees on the importance of rationalizing the consumption and preserving resources.
