The company will host the launch at its headquarters, where it's expected to announce long-awaited updates to its MacBook computers.

The company on Wednesday sent out invites for its second event in a little over a month, taking place October 27 at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The invitation reads "Hello again" with an image of the Apple logo.

Apple didn't host a second event last fall, instead opting to announce everything from phones to iPads at its September launch. This year, though, it used its first fall event on September 7 to focus on the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2. Missing from that launch was any mention of Apple's Macintosh computers and its iPad tablets.

Apple's computers should get the most stage time at next week's event. The Mac business might not be as big -- or as sexy -- as its iPhone business, but it remains an important focus for Apple. The company generates less than 15 percent of its sales from Macs, but the devices help flesh out its family of products, which are increasingly designed to work together.

Apple has updated its Macs every year, but most of those changes have been tweaks more than huge innovations. Last year's 12-inch MacBook update was the only completely new laptop design since the 2012 MacBook Pro. Rumors say this year's Mac lineup could see a major overhaul. The new MacBook Pros will reportedly have an OLED touchscreen in place of function keys, can be unlocked with Touch ID and feature Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports.
