Togbui Mawufeame Fugah, Life Patron of the Atta Mills Foundation, a pro-democracy group, has urged African leaders to focus on strengthening the political unity of the Continent.
African countries, he said, shared common problems of poverty, high unemployment, diseases, high mortality rates and low technological developments and should therefore find common ground for dealing with these.
Togbui Fugah's made the call as part of the celebrations marking the centenary birthday celebration of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President.
He said Osagyefo Dr Nkrumah was a Pan-Africanist, who championed the unity and dignity of not only Africans but the black race and that it was about time Africans overcame their language, religious, ethnic and ideological barriers and revisit Dr Nkrumah's vision of promoting the dignity of the Continent.
He said it was unfortunate that though Africa had overcome colonialism, "our leaders continue to rely on the Western world to sustain their economies."
He was hopeful that the Continent would come together to tap their human and material resources for development.
