A 60-member Oversight Committee under the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) for six districts in the Eastern Region was jointly inaugurated at a ceremony at Nkawkaw on Friday.
The districts are Kwahu West Municipal, Kwahu South, Kwahu East, Kwahu North, Akyemmansa and Birim North.
The District Oversight Committee will promote APRM ideology to ensure good governance, accountability, transparency and democracy at the grass root level.
Inaugurating the committee a Member of the National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (NAPRM)-(GC), Prof S.K.B. Asante, said APRM was conducted in four substantive areas including Democracy and Good governance, economic governance and socio-economic development.
He attributed the woes on the African continent to bad governance and leadership which had led to the continent's under development and urged members of the committees to be committed and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
The Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, said the country was becoming a shining star in Africa due to its stable democracy.
He advised members of the committee to put their political affiliations aside and discharge their duties with maximum efficiency.
