Most British people oppose sending extra troops to Afghanistan and want to withdraw British troops from the country immediately, a latest poll said on Tuesday.
Some 52 percent of the voters wanted British troops to withdraw from Afghanistan straightaway, while 75 percent agreed that British troops lack the equipment they need to perform their role safely in Afghanistan, the poll released by the ComRes survey said.
Although the government said there is a need of reinforcement of British troops to secure the area they have captured, only 35 percent voted for more devotion of troops and resources to Afghanistan.
A total of 20 British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan this month. As of now, 189 British soldiers have died, surpassing the number killed in Iraq after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
British Defense Secretary Bob Ainsworth said last Friday that Britain will send 125 service personnel to Afghanistan to help sustain the progress of current operations.
