A one-day orientation course for members of the West Akyem Municipal Assembly has been organized at Asamankese.
The workshop was meant to orientate, update and keep members of the assembly informed about pertinent issues they needed to know for them to perform creditably.
Topics treated included the Local Government System, Roles and Responsibilities of Assembly Members, Revenue Mobilization, Conflict Resolution and Members Contribution towards the preparation of a three-year Medium-Term Development Plan.
The workshop was organized by the Sunkwa Foundation, a community based organization, in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly and funded by the Germen Development Service.
Mr Seth Otchere, the Municipal Chief Executive, said the topics treated would inculcate requisite skills that the assembly members would need to be able to resolve burning conflicts in their areas.
Mr Otchere said since such orientation courses were very essential he would make sure that funds were set aside for at least one such workshop annually for members to further improve upon their skills for the arduous challenges they had to go through.
He expressed the assembly's gratitude to a former member of the Assembly, Mr Ansah, Director of Sunkwa Foundation, for the conscious and dedicated efforts he made in seeking funding for the training programmes.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Ansah said as a member of the Assembly for several years, he realised the need for the workshop to broaden their knowledge on issues that would make them effective.
