The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA)
on Friday elected Mr. Samuel Sarpong as the Metropolitan Chief Executive
(MCE) at an election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
He polled a total of 77 votes out of the 79 ballots cast.
Mr. Sarpong, who is in his early 50s, was until his election, the Ashanti Regional Zonal Head of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).
The Assembly also elected Nana Kofi Senyah as the Presiding Member (PM) after he polled a total of 80 out of the 81 ballots cast.
In an address, Mr. Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister, promised that he, will be supportive of the MCE and PM in their endeavours to enhance the development of Kumasi and Ashanti in general.
He charged the members of the Assembly to bury their differences and always come out with suggestions and initiatives to complement government's efforts of raising the standard of living of the citizenry.
Mr. Sarpong and Mr. Senyah both thanked the Assembly for the honour done them and promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by working hard.
