Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Monday that the United States and Latin American countries began a new chapter in their relationships at the fifth summit of the Americas.
In his weekly radio show "Breakfast with the President", Lula said the Summit marked the beginning of a new chapter in relations between the countries in the continent.
The more harmony and integration among us, the more chances we will have to live in peace and develop our countries, he said.
Lula also stressed the importance of the end to the U.S. embargo against Cuba, according to him, it is impossible to hold the Summit without the presence of representatives from Cuba in the future.
Cuba was expelled from the Organization of American States (OAS) in 1962, three years after the Cuban Revolution.
Lula said he believed things would change during U.S. President Barack Obama's administration, despite the resistance from the conservatives.
