Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Michael Somare has asked his Fiji counterpart Commodore Frank Bainimarama to reconsider his decision not to attend a special Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in Port Moresby next week.
Bainimarama has pulled out of the meeting, saying that he was needed to coordinate flood relief efforts at home, the Pacnews reported on Thursday.
He asked for the meeting to be delayed, but the meeting is to go ahead and Fiji is the main agenda topic.
Somare has sent a letter to Bainimarama urging him to come to Port Moresby.
Somare also urged both Australia and New Zealand to be more understanding about Fiji's political situation.
