Egypt will continue exerting its efforts to resume an inter-Palesitinian dialogue and push for a new truce in and around Gaza Strip, Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said here Tuesday.
Abbas made the remarks following talks earlier in the day with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
Abbas, who arrived here on late Monday, said that Egypt is "the only country qualified to shoulder efforts of restoring calm to Gaza Strip and restarting the Palestinian-Palestinian dialogue."
The six-month truce between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups, brokered by Egypt, expired last Friday following failed efforts to resume the truce or extend it for another six months.
Meanwhile, the inter-Palestinian dialogue, which was scheduled for Nov. 10 in Cairo, was boycotted by Hamas movement that took over Gaza by force in June 2007.
After the talks with Mubarak, during which Abbas also reviewed the outcome of his recent visits to Moscow and Washington, the Palestinian leader headed for Amman.
