There was no single observer from the international community or local observers group like the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) or Christian Council during the special voting for the Presidential election runoff in Bolgatanga, unlike during Election 2008 on December 7.
Polling agents of the two main political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) were, however, present at the premises of the Northern Regional Police Headquarters for the voting.
There was general apathy towards today's runoff because only 498 voters out of the 931 on the special voter list had cast their vote as at 1200 hours, most of them police personnel.
Together with transferred voters, whose names were not on the special voters list, the number of special voters turning up to cast their votes exceeded 1,000.
According to the Electoral Officer, Mr George Konlan, voting started at 0700 hours in earnest with few security personnel queuing to cast their votes.
He said the number of voters was likely to increase because some of the security personnel, who had travelled on special assignments, would return to cast their votes.
