Voters have been called upon to critically review promises of the two presidential candidates contesting the runoff polls to enable them to make informed choices.
Dr Kwadwo Adom Tufuor, a Theologian and author, who made the call in a statement in Accra on Monday, said this would enable the electorate to disregard the mudslinging, which had characterised the campaigns of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the run-up to the December 28 Presidential Election runoff.
Dr Adom Tufuor argued that for political mudslinging to be of any value to the voters, it must pass the tests of truth and relevance.
"What you say about your opponent must be true and must also be relevant to the office being sought," he said.
He said even though it would be difficult for a candidate to run a meaningful and understandable issues-based campaign without contrasting the stance of his opponent, it must be done in a way so as not to backfire.
"The truth and relevance of issues relating to the ruling NPP and its presidential candidate on one side, and the opposition NDC and its presidential candidate on the other side, will determine how the electorate will vote during the runoff."
Dr Tufuor has authored a number of books with the latest one entitled; "The Politics of Campaigning and Winning Elections, The Essential Guide to Campaigns and Elections".
