Spokesman of Turkish ministry of foreign affairs Burak Ozugergin on Monday called on all related parties to resolve Darfur crisis and restore peace in Sudan.
"Turkey has been cooperating with international society to contribute to peace, stability and welfare in Sudan," Ozugergin was quoted as saying at a press conference here while answering questions about the visit of UN Secretary General special representative to Sudan Ashraf Qazi last week.
"Turkey gives high importance to Sudan's independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and we believe that all related parties should abide by implementation of Comprehensive Peace Agreement that draws an important framework for peace and stability in Sudan," Ozugergin said.
"We are also pleased over the central role and activities of the UN Mission in South Sudan," he added.
The spokesman stressed that Turkey, which has become a non- permanent member of the UN Security Council and a strategic partner of African Union, would continue to show a special interest in regional problems including the developments in Africa.
Qazi was received by Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and Political Affairs Deputy Undersecretary Unal Cevikoz during his stay in Turkey's capital city of Ankara, Ozugergin said.
Early next month, a number of Arab and African foreign ministers will meet in the Qatari capital of Doha to discuss ways to restore peace to Sudan's troubled western region of Darfur.
