The announcement was made following a recent Bureau meeting that confirmed the election of new commission members for a four-year term.

The Commission will be chaired by Marc Pascal Pierre Dansou of Benin, with Holyantsa Rabejaona from Madagascar serving as Secretary.

The Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission represents the interests of athletes across the continent within the sport’s governance framework.

Its key role is to ensure athletes’ voices are heard in decision-making processes while promoting advocacy, inclusion, and collaboration within the African aquatics community.

Abeku’s election marks another milestone in his distinguished career.

The Team Ghana captain recently won five medals (including four gold) at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships hosted at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, where Ghana secured an impressive 69 medals overall.

He has represented Ghana at numerous international events, including the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, and made history by ending Ghana’s long-standing medal drought at the 2023 African Games, clinching silver and bronze.
