Ghana Black Queens defender Josephine Bonsu has stated that playing for Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team is a way of honouring her father.
Bonsu, who was born in Germany, featured in Ghana’s bronze medal win at the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON and featured in the Queens’ qualification to the 2026 edition of the continental championship.
Ghana beat Egypt 7-0 across two qualification legs with the Queens bagging a 4-0 win over the Cleopatras at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Bonsu competed in the wins over Egypt and speaking after playing in front of Ghana fans for the first time, the 26 year old was in awe of the moment.
“It’s a dream to play for the national team. I’m just giving back to my father, playing for the national team. It means a lot.”

“When I was walking through the tunnel to the pitch then I saw the fans and I was like is this even real life because it was loud.”

“The atmosphere was just outstanding and in the middle of the game, I know I needed to be focused but sometimes I was just looking around and just enjoying [the atmosphere] so this is just a dream” Bonsu said.
