The draw for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) took place on Monday, January 27, in Rabat, Morocco, revealing the group stage matchups.
Sudan, who secured their spot at the tournament by eliminating Ghana’s Black Stars, have been drawn into Group E alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.
Under the leadership of Kwesi Appiah, Sudan made a significant impact in the qualifiers, drawing 0-0 with Ghana in Accra and then defeating them 2-0 in Benghazi. This result played a key role in Ghana's unexpected failure to qualify for the Nations Cup for the first time in 20 years.
Sudan sealed their AFCON qualification with a crucial 0-0 draw against Angola in their final qualifier in Benghazi last November.
Appiah, who previously led Ghana to an AFCON appearance, is confident in Sudan’s potential and has urged his team to approach every match with determination and belief.
“The AFCON in Morocco in 2025 is going to be exciting. Sudan is in a strong group, but my goal is always to win the cup,” Appiah stated in an interview with JoySports. “If you’re afraid of any team, then why are you participating in the competition?”
