The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Patience Adams has announced that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is ready to host football matches following the completion of renovations.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Miss Adams confirmed that the venue is operational but still requires formal approval from their superiors in Accra before it can officially reopen.
“All work at the Baba Yara Stadium is completed and ready to host any football events, but we are awaiting clearance from our masters in Accra before the facility can be opened,” she stated.
The stadium had been closed for renovations after CAF deemed it unfit for international matches, primarily due to the poor condition of the pitch.
This closure forced Ghana to relocate its 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan to Accra, and Asante Kotoko SC had to shift their home games to Obuasi.
As the sports community eagerly awaits approval from Accra, the potential for upcoming events at Baba Yara Stadium is significant.
The venue is set to host not only local matches but also international fixtures, positioning Kumasi as a premier destination for football.
