Mr Chales Osei Asibey, Communications Director of the Ghana Olympics Committee says they are confident the athletes selected to represent Ghana in Bahamas are capable of winning medals. "We are very confident of the team representing Ghana.
It is a formidable team and that's why we didn't do a whole sale presentation. "We had to carefully select and make sure that the team we are taking to Bahamas are those that can improve over the period and we believe they are possible medal winners", he said. Speaking to the GNA at the GOC office, Mr Asibey said they want the victory to come as a surprise to everybody.
"We just want to go in with a low profile so that the medals would come as a surprise to everybody should we win them. "If we don't win a medal, we believe it is work in progress because they are young athletes with a bright future" he added.
Twelve athletes aged between 14 and 18 years would represent Ghana in seven sporting disciplines in the Bahamas.
"Aside the fact that we want to send quality, we are also constrained financially so we had to cut down on the number. But we're confident the twelve going can deliver", Mr Asibey said. He appealed to corporate Ghana to support athletics to enable more athletes to compete in subsequent championships.
