NATO has begun to take over the task of enforcing a no-fly zone over Libya, a day after the bloc decided to take full command of the Libya air campaign, a top military official was quoted by local media as saying on Monday.
NATO was in the process of taking over command from the U.S.-led operation in Libya after all 28 NATO members agreed on the transfer on Sunday, Lt. Gen. Charles Bouchard of Canada, who was appointed commander of NATO's military mission in Libya, told a press conference at the Allied Joint Force Command in Naples, Italy.
The North Atlantic Council, NATO's decision-making body, decided to take on the whole military operation in Libya under UN Security Council Resolution 1973.
