The Home department in the south Indian state of Kerala has sought legal opinion on the application for emergency parole by Congress-B leader R Balakrishna Pillai.
Home Department sources said that the parole
application of Pillai was forwarded to the Law Department.
Once the legal opinion of the Law Department was
received, the application would be forwarded to the State Chief Electoral Officer.
Meawhile, the Chief Electoral Officer has decided to seek an explanation from the Home Department for allowing 10-day emergency parole to a person who was held under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (Goonda Act).
"Since the elections were notified, it was mandatory to consult the Election Department before taking a decision on even matters such as granting parole," Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto said.
The Home Department had granted parole to Anoop of Choozhampala here for getting married.
