NATO countries are meeting on Friday to discuss ways to implement the UN resolution, which has
authorized the use of "all necessary measures" to protect civilians in Libya, a diplomat said on Friday.
Ambassadors of NATO countries are scheduled to hold a meeting on 10:30 a.m. (0930 GMT) on Friday "to discuss the implications of the resolution," the diplomat told Xinhua.
NATO Secretray General Anders Fogh Rasmussen welcomed the Thursday's resolution, which gives green light to the deployment of a no-fly zone
over Libya, the source said.
The NATO chief has repeatedly said that NATO needs a "demonstrable need" for action, a "clear legal basis" and "firm regional support" to launch operation to tackle the Libya crisis.
However, NATO allies are still divided on whether to impose a no-fly zone. While the United States, Britain and France strongly back the idea, German remains cautious and Turkey expresses opposition.
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces are reportedly getting an upper hand on the ground and have edged close to the rebel stronghold of
Benghazi.
