The Former Minister of Health, Dr George Sepa Yankey, has stressed the need for assembly
members to be innovative to generate adequate revenue to complement the efforts of the government.
Dr Yankey said this when inaugurating the sixth general assembly of the Ahanta West District at Agona Nkwanta on Tuesday.
He urged the assembly to ensure that funds provided by the central government as well as the internally generated funds were judiciously managed to ensure an accelerated socio-economic
development.
He appealed to the assembly to put premium on sanitation and waste management to rid towns and cities of filth.
The assembly has 36 elected members, 16 appointed members, the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area.
The District Magistrate of the area, Mr Benjamin Sampson Effirim, administered the oath of office and allegiance to the assembly members.
Earlier in his welcome address the District Chief Executive for the Ahanta West, Mr Joseph Jones Amoah, enumerated a number of development projects embarked upon in the district such as provision of school blocks for pupils who study under trees, access roads, health infrastructure and water.
Mr Amoah appealed to the old assembly members who were re-elected to share their experiences and knowledge with the new members to move the assembly forward.
Mr Joseph Dofo Nyame was elected as the Presiding Member of the assembly after his opponent Mr Joseph Kwofie stepped down in the
fourth round of voting.
He pledged to work closely with the leadership of the House to ensure development in the district.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Samuel Johnfiah, called on the assembly members to eschew partisan politics and work as corporate entity to ensure an accelerated development
