South Korea on Sunday imposed a travel ban on the eastern region of Libya where anti-government rallies have continued for weeks, the country's foreign ministry said.
The ministry also issued a travel alert for the rest of the North African nation, asking South Koreans to refrain from visiting the country.
"Mass demonstrations have caused many casualties and they are likely to be expanded to other regions," said an official from the ministry. "We ask South Koreans who are staying in Libya to be careful and to cancel or delay plans to tour northeastern areas such as Benghazi, Al Bayda, Derna and Tobruq."
