Vice President John Dramani Mahama, has appealed to officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to support the Executive to fulfil the dreams of President John Evans Atta Mills “Better Ghana” agenda.
“Party executives should not be a hindrance to administration, just like I expect the Ministers, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to collaborate effectively with the party hierarchy to achieve developmental goals.”
Vice President Mahama made the appeal when he addressed members of the NDC in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region as part of a day’s official visit to the Municipality.
The meeting attracted NDC members from Adansi North, Adansi South, Adansi Central and Obuasi Municipality.
“We promised to serve the people of Ghana better and that is why… four million Ghanaians voted for us and we cannot afford to continue wasting our useful time on petty quarrels.”
On the fuel price increment he said under the prevailing circumstance the only option at the time was to increase prices of some petroleum products.
“No good leader will be happy to see his subjects suffering and I want to assure you that government did not increase fuel prices to punish any of you.”
He promised the people of Obuasi that government would work on all their town roads as part of a Chinese road support loan.
The Vice President called on Ministers and Chief executives who were recently relieved of their positions to continue to support the ideals of NDC government to win subsequent elections.
“The reshuffle in government does not mean incompetence, for your services will definitely be needed somewhere else.
Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development called on agitating members of the NDC to exercise restraint as government was poised in satisfying their needs.
“Government cannot serve all of you at the same time and I know that at the right time you will feel and get your share of the “Better Ghana” agenda.
He attributed the slow take off government in fulfilling its promises to the empty national coffers the NDC inherited.
He said government had over the years managed to stabilise the economy and was beginning this year with action as promised by the President Mills.
Mr John Alexander Ackon, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive promised to work hard for NDC to win the Obuasi constituency seat and provide development projects to the people.
