Security forces have cleared out a district in Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital some 160 km north of Afghan capital Kabul, a private television channel reported Friday.
"Baghlan-e-Jadid district in Baghlan province have been cleared out of Taliban militants," Tolo reported in its news bulletin.
"Three weapon caches of the insurgents have also been discovered and seized by the troops during the operations, the television further said.
Baghlan-e-Jadid and Dand-e-Ghori districts have been regarded as the hotbeds of Taliban militants in the northern Baghlan province since early 2010 and the security forces since then have been mounting pressure on the insurgents holed up there.
Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
