Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the Eastern Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to reflect on the birth of Christ, the gift God to mankind, and bury all political differences in order forge ahead as one people.
He called on all political leaders to show the way by using their political activities to create unity among the people.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo made the call in a Christmas message he gave at the Second Regional Nine lessons and Carols Service organized by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in collaboration with the Ghana Broadcasting Corperation (GBC) at the residency gardens in Koforidua.
The event was instituted last year by the regional minister to bring all heads of department, chiefs, clergy and the entire Christian community together once every year to reflect on the providence of God and to solicit for support for the disadvantaged in society.
The Regional Minister observed that, God had been grateful unto the region despite some occurrences such as the spillage of the Akosombo dam, activities of illegal miners that had caused the lives of some residents in the region.
He said if not for anything, it was prudent to thank God for the favour on the region for hosting many national events including the launching of national safe motherhood programme, World AIDS day, national best teacher awards and best farmer awards ceremony.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo expressed gratitude to sponsors of the event including Mr Joseph Okyere, a local contractor, Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) and the managing director of Solar Mining Company and indicated that the proceeds from the service would be used to fete inmates of some orphanages in the region on Boxing day.
Reverend Alex Ofori-Amankwah, the Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in an exhortation said the humility surrounding Christ's birth should permeate all aspects of life.
He urge all not to reduce the season to only drinking and eating but to reflect on the selfless giving of God's gift to mankind and endeavour to live according to the tenets of that sacrifice.
Prayers were said for Ghana, Cote D'Voire and world peace at large at the event that attracted leaders of all the Christian denomination in the region and some traditional leaders.
