Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, on Monday asked the 22 Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to actively involve traders in their fee fixing resolution to
void unnecessary unrest.
He said the input of market women, petty traders and other business entities in the fee fixing resolution would not only create an atmosphere of peace but would also help the assemblies in their revenue mobilization drive.
"If traders and business entities engage in dialogue for fee fixing they would readily pay their taxes to enable the assemblies to get enough revenue for development", the regional minister said.
Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo was addressing municipal and district coordinating directors and finance officers of the assemblies at the opening of a two-day seminar at Abesim, near Sunyani.
The seminar is on the District Assembly Service Improvement Programme (DASIP) of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD).
Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo stressed that the neglect of stakeholders in fee fixing resolution normally led to agitations, which culminated into an
atmosphere of gloom for businesses.
The main objective of DASIP is to ensure the reduction of cost, elimination of various administrative bottlenecks and the simplification of local government licence and permit procedures.
The Regional Minister advised the participants to take the seminar seriously and come out with recommendations that would help reduce the processes, time and cost involved in doing business with the general public.
Mr. Chris Azumah, Director in-charge of performance improvement at the MLGRD and Mr. Simon Bokor, Head of Management Development and Training at the Institute of Local Government Studies will take the participants through
building development and business operating permits, as well as fee fixing resolutions of the assemblies.
