Ghana Fatherhood Initiative, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that promotes and encourages committed and responsible fatherhood, on Thursday announced its intention to form "Dads' Club" in every community, church and within Parent-Teacher Associations.
Mr Samuel Nii Teiko Tackie, Founder and President of the NGO said so far it had formed a club in Accra but hope to extend it to communities in the country to encourage responsible fatherhood at the national level.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, he said: "It is more important for a father to be involved with a child each day, than to shower your child with expensive clothing, vacation or toys for entertainment without the father's presence."
Sharing his personal life experience, Mr Tackie said his father was physically present in his life but was a very busy man who hardly sat with him and even though he provided my needs, "I still felt I lacked a father's emotional support when I grew up."
Mr Tackie urged interested fathers who want to help in forming the club in their communities to contact the Ghana Fatherhood Initiative's office at Kinbu in Accra for additional details.
He announced that next year the organisation would organise the first ever fathers' award ceremony and urged Ghanaians to nominate people who were example of best fathers for the awards.
Mr Tackie stressed that a father's presence in the life of a child was essential and urged Ghanaians to be committed to the ideals of fatherhood.
