The United States is working on a plan to begin pulling U.S. troops out of Afghanistan in the summer, a top American envoy said Sunday.
Richard Holbrooke said in Pakistan that the plan calls for the withdrawals to begin in July and take about four years to complete.
Holbrooke, speaking at a roundtable at the Pakistan Development Forum, said the departure of U.S. forces did not mean Washington was not committed to supporting President Hamid Karzai. He also said Pakistan supported the Kabul
government, a fact the Taliban would have to accept, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
Holbrooke said Karzai and U.S. President Obama would both attend a NATO summit in Portugal next week.
