Two people, found pasting posters of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former First Lady, as a presidential candidate for the 2012 elections, have been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police to help in their investigations.
The two, Nana Oboadie Opambour Boateng, the New Juaben South constituency Parliamentary candidate of the People's National Convention (PNC), for the 2008 elections, and a New Patriotic Party (NPP)activist of the Abetifi Constituency, Kweku Afrifa.
The posters had the inscription "Nana Konadu hope for Ghana 2012".
In a press briefing, the Eastern Regional Police Command, said, Afrifa was arrested at Abetifi at about 22:00 hours, on Friday, by the Abetifi Police, upon a tip-off by the Kwahu East District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Samuel Asamoah.
The Police said the DCE saw Afrifa distributing the posters and hurriedly reported to them and he was arrested with some of the posters.
Afrifa then led the police to the constituency office of the NPP, where 178 more of the posters were retrieved.
The police said on Saturday morning that, they had information that Nana Oboadie was also pasting some of the posters in Koforidua and managed to arrest him.
The Police said upon a search in Nana Oboadie's room, 109 copies of the posters were retrieved and a membership form, with the inscription "Billion Club", with former President Jerry John Rawlings picture on it.
Police said it would prepare the docket on the case and send it to the Attorney Generals Office for advice.
Commenting on the arrest, the Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP, Mr Frank Anno-Dompreh said the party does not know Afrifa in their circles and only knew that he was a media personnel based in Abetifi.
He explained that, on the day of the arrest, the Abetifi Constituency Office of NPP was closed and nobody knew how Afrifa managed to drop the posters at the office.
Mr Anno-Dompreh said Wiredu, the Research officer of the party, was invited by the police for interrogation but was later released.
He called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to look within themselves for their problems and stop blaming others.
Nana Oboadie, who had been granted bail, told the GNA that, he met a group of people pasting the posters in Koforidua in a pick-up and he expressed interest in helping them because of his sympathy towards the Rawlings family.
He said the people then gave him copies of the posters and the forms to distribute and paste and he decided to send part of the posters to his friend, one Mark Two of High FM in Abetifi.
Nana Oboadie said he was later informed that the police had picked one of the people who also volunteered to paste the posters at Abetifi and later he was also arrested by the police in Koforidua.
