Mr Mohammed Nabila, the Volta Regional Co-ordinator of the National Youth Council (NYC) has called for a legislative framework to eternalize the recently passed National Youth Policy.
He said such legislative backing would be necessary to commit successive governments and stakeholders to own the policy and make
financial and other resources available to institutions charged with its implementation.
Mr Nabila made the call at a forum organized by the Ghana Trade and Livelihood Coalition (GTLC) in Ho on the "challenges facing the Youth in Agriculture Project."
He said the Youth Policy was a non-partisan but political document which reflected the collective national decision on the direction in which the country proposes to lead and groom its youth.
Mr Nabila said there was need for collaboration among institutions and agencies and other stakeholders in implementing the Policy
in order to avoid duplication.
He said though the Youth in Agriculture Project had been in existence for sometime now, it was not successful as there was no binding youth policy to give it direction.
Mr Nabila said for the Youth in Agriculture project to be successful there was the need to address challenges in education and
training, land tenure, credit and marketing.
