Ms. Ophelia Koomson, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, on Tuesday reiterated the commitment of the Government to develop all rural communities irrespective of their political affiliation.
"The government will continue to provide rural communities with the necessary social amenities, such as potable drinking water, good roads, electricity and good classroom blocks to ensure that the people live in dignity".
Ms Koomson was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Akyem Asuboa South in her honour as part of her tour of the municipality to know at first hand problems confronting the people and to assist in finding solutions to them.
She implored the people to honour their part of the bargain by taking active part on communal labour on self-help projects in their areas to help reduce the cost of financing those projects.
Ms. Koomson explained in doing so the government would be in a position to save more money to provide social amenities to other communities.
She challenged rural communities to initiate more self-help projects on their own for the government to come to their aid adding, with the increase in population coupled with the strain on the national budget, it would be difficult for the central government to satisfy communities with all their needs.
The MCE stressed the need for the people to live in peace at all times and avoid chieftaincy disputes and all acts that stifle development.
Ms. Koomson re-echoed the need for parents to invest heavily in their children's education, saying, "Cocoa farms could get burnt, but giving
quality education to your child in an investment forever".
She asked parents to support their wards through school and shun the use of resources on expensive funeral clothes and irrelevant social habits.
Mr. Kinsley Appiah, an assembly member, on behalf of the people, presented to the MCE a list of projects of which the town would need
assistance.
These include the rehabilitation of their only place of convenience, the construction of an additional one to support the increasing population, extending the school feeding programme to the town, construction of a market
and the extension of electricity supply to deprived areas of the town.
