At least 18 members of Colombia's biggest rebel army FARC were killed on Friday during a bombing of their camp, Colombian Ministry of Defense said.
The joint Colombian Air Forces and Army on Friday bombed a camp of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in Llanos Orientales region (Central-East), Defense Minister Gabriel Silva said in a communique.
Besides the 18 deaths, 13 rebels were captured alive and many others were injured during the action, according to Silva.
The attack target was a camp of the FARC's Front 43, located in the rural area of Vista Hermosa municipality, in the Meta department.
The bombing came after months of tracking of the rebels, and obviously caught the FARC front unprepared, in middle of their New Year celebration.
Twenty-five rifles, explosives and other war materials and information were found in the camp, said the communique.
Local daily "El Tiempo" said the Colombian Army is still chasing after the FARC members who survived and are on the run.
"El Tiempo" said the attack was aimed at tracking down those responsible for the murder of Luis Francisco Cueller, governor of Caqueta
department, on December 22.
