President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday said Ghana's foreign policy of positive neutrality still remains whilst its economic diplomacy hinges on the national interest.
He said Ghana's foreign policy will deliver good neighbourliness, peace at home and abroad and economic wellbeing by strategic partnerships.
President Mahama who was delivering his maiden state of nation's address in Accra, noted that Ghana's commitment to peace and security in the West Africa Sub-region was paramount in its foreign policy considerations.
He said Ghana had recently joined with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in contributing a modest detachment of armed forces to participate in the African-led force operation in Mali, AFISMA aimed to seek a permanent peaceful resolution of the conflict in that country
"As the actual armed conflict is abating, Ghana stands ready to use our rich mediation experience, to assist Mali return to stable, representative democracy, just as we have done in time past in helping bring peace to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Cote d'Ivoire", President Mahama said.
President Mahama gave assurance that Ghana was committed to peace and stability in the region, and had pledged at the Africa Union and the United Nations, that Ghana would not serve as a haven to destabilize any of its neighbours
"Under my Presidency, Ghanaians and the international community can trust that Ghana will uphold all its commitments to the UN, the AU, the Commonwealth, ECOWAS and other international organisations to which we belong" President Mahama stated.
He explained that Ghana would continued to take all necessary measures in cooperation with other relevant international agencies to fight against international terrorism, money laundering, narcotic and human trafficking.
