The Guans have launched this year's Guan Congress 2026 at Anum in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, with a call on all the Guans, both home and abroad, to embrace the vision of unity of the Guans for the development of their respective areas.
The Guan Congress 2026, to be held from August 14-16, 2026, was launched at the Palace of the Anum Traditional Council on the theme: "Harnessing Resources in Guan Communities for Inclusive and Sustainable Development".
The launch attracted dignitaries from Guan communities across the country. Captivating cultural displays and poetry recitals tied to the upcoming Congress added immense beauty and colour to the event.
The National President of the Guan Congress, Enyineh Gyadu Nkansah III, who is also Ankobeahene of Larteh Ahenease in the Akuapem Traditional Area, gave a brief history of the Guan Congress and said the first conference, which was organised by four men from Boso Ajumako, including Kwame Ampone, Obosomfo Yaw Essah, Kwabena Hiango and Kofi Nyanteh, took place on November 1, 1981 (45 years ago) at Boso Anyinase.
He stressed that the congress targeted fostering unity among the Guans and working towards the promotion and development of the Guan language, art, and culture as initial objectives of the Guan Congress and urged all Guan communities to come together for the development of their respective areas.
The Paramount Chief of the Anum Traditional Area, Akusiaku-Brempong Kumi Sasraku VIII, in his remarks, called for the harmonisation of resources, ideas and efforts to build stronger communities and create a brighter future for generations yet unborn.
The Paramount Chief further called on development partners, corporate organisations and friends of the Guan people to partner them in their transformative journey, adding: "Your support and collaboration will be instrumental in helping us transform our communities".
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Barima Dr Obeng Dompreh, who is also the Akyempemhene of the Anum Traditional Area, in his welcome address, said Guans across the various Guan communities were blessed with abundant resources, yet these resources often remained fragmented and underutilised and called on all the Guans to come together, align their efforts and leverage their strengths for the benefit of all Guan communities.
