The Member of Parliament for Nandom in the Upper West region, Lawyer Richard Kuuire, has presented a comprehensive account of his first year in Parliament, outlining key interventions across health, education, employment, agriculture, infrastructure, and social development aimed at improving livelihoods in the constituency.
Presenting his stewardship in an interview with The Ghanaian Times in Accra, the MP said the past year had been one of practical impact and targeted investments to respond to pressing community needs while laying a foundation for sustained development.
The MP indicated that strengthening healthcare delivery remained a priority. He invested GH?127,507.00 in the renovation of the Tuopare Primary and Clinic facility to improve access to health care for residents. A further GH?22,892.00 supported HPV vaccination to enhance maternal and adolescent health, while GH?7,000.00 went into ambulance repairs to improve emergency response in the constituency.
In the area of education, Lawyer Kuuire committed significant resources to ease financial burdens on students and promote academic excellence. He spent GH?115,855.00 on school fees support for needy but brilliant students and allocated GH?59,560.00 for meals for BECE candidates. The MP also supported GES sporting activities with GH?10,000.00, recognising the role of sports in youth development and discipline.
Further, he successfully lobbied for 17 students to benefit from GETFund Scholarships, while 13 others secured local scholarships to further their education.
To address youth unemployment, the MP rolled out several youth empowerment and skills-development initiatives. Over 25 youth have been engaged under the National Apprenticeship Programme, 17 others trained under the Adwumawura Project, and additional youth placed in the NIB laboratory initiative. In total, more than 25 young people have gained employment opportunities through various interventions and facilitation support from the MP.
Recognising the need to improve community infrastructure and safety, GH?32,180.00 was invested in streetlight repairs to enhance security and visibility in communities across Nandom. The MP also allocated GH?8,490.00 towards youth employment support initiatives, in addition to funding community-based projects.
In promoting social cohesion and cultural preservation, Lawyer Kuuire contributed GH?49,100.00 to support the Kakube Festival, one of the constituency’s biggest cultural celebrations. The support, he said, was to sustain cultural identity and boost local tourism and economic activity around the event.
The MP also highlighted major interventions in agriculture aimed at boosting food security and farmer livelihoods. He supported farmers with 4,000 bags of fertiliser, helping to improve crop yields, and facilitated the distribution of over 1,000 guinea fowls to farmers to expand livestock production and enhance income generation.
Lawyer Richard Kuuire reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with community leaders, traditional authorities, youth groups, and development partners to drive progress in Nandom. He expressed appreciation to the people for their support and pledged to deepen development efforts in the years ahead.
Residents are expected to continue assessing the impact of the interventions as the MP embarks on his second year in office, with expectations of more transformative development for the constituency.
