Dr Bryan Acheampong has declared his confidence in winning the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary insisting that history, preparation, and a clear reading of the political moment all point in his favour. “My confidence is grounded in history, preparation, and a clear reading of the moment we are in,” Acheampong said.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra he drew parallels with past NPP leaders, where he noted that Dr. K.A. Busia and former President John Agyekum Kufuor both secured victory on their first attempt. “What they had in common was timing, clarity of purpose, and a message that resonated beyond their base. I believe this is such a moment for the NPP.”
Dr. Acheampong, was emphatic about the strength of his campaign on the ground. “I will win the primary. We have engaged directly with 90 per cent of the delegates. We have profiled 180,000 delegates and I can tell you with military-grade precision that we are winning. Give me a constituency and I’ll tell you where we stand today,” he said.
According to him, the mood within the party base is unmistakable. “They want change, they want discipline and they want delivery. They want someone who can unify the party, galvanise resources and win power,” Acheampong stated, arguing that the NPP is ready for a new phase of leadership. Addressing long-standing debates about regional balance, Acheampong dismissed the notion that geography should determine leadership.
“Regional origin doesn’t determine destiny,” he said, pointing to the party’s own history of leadership transitions across regions. “What should matter to delegates and to Ghanaians is competence, character, credibility, and the ability to win and govern effectively.” He stressed that the party now needs renewal. “The NPP needs fresh leadership to rebuild trust, reconnect with the base, and win again,” Acheampong said.
Reflecting on his political journey, Acheampong highlighted his four terms in Parliament as formative. “They have taught me how politics really works — building consensus, managing interests, and standing firm when it matters,” he said. He added that his experience across party lines and in difficult moments has prepared him to lead decisively.
“I understand the grassroots, the parliamentary caucus, and the national political terrain,” Acheampong concluded. “That experience has prepared me to lead the party, win elections, and govern with authority.”
