Madam Patricia Pearl Ankrah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, has cut the sod for the commencement of six development projects in five communities, assuring residents of their uninterrupted completion within six months.
The projects, which are fully funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), form part of government’s flagship programmes aimed at expanding access to education, healthcare, water and sanitation, particularly in deprived communities. The six projects include a two-unit Kindergarten block at Kyerase, Health Centre at Ntiribuoho, 20-seater toilet facility at Heman, CHPS Compound and a three-unit classroom block at Dumakyi, and six-unit classroom block at Wawaase Akwaasu.
Speaking after the sod-cutting ceremony at Dumakyi, Madam Ankrah said the selection of beneficiary communities was intentional, stressing the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that no community was left behind in development efforts. She noted that some of the communities were located more than eight kilometres from the district capital and served populations of over 800 people, with surrounding settlements pushing the total beneficiary population to nearly 3,000 residents.
“These are all Ghanaians. They voted, and they deserve development. That is why we are bringing these projects to them,” she stated. The DCE disclosed that beyond the six physical projects, the Assembly was also rolling out an extensive water supply intervention across the district, comprising 30 mechanised boreholes and 10 hand-pump boreholes to improve access to potable water.
According to her, all the projects had commenced simultaneously and were expected to be completed and commissioned within six months, as funding for them had already been secured under the DACF. “These are Common Fund projects, and the funds are available. When I say six months, I mean six months. We will come back to commission them,” Madam Ankrah assured. She called on contractors to adhere strictly to timelines and quality standards, while appealing to community members to cooperate with the Assembly and contractors to ensure smooth implementation of the projects.
Madam Ankrah reiterated the Assembly’s resolve to continue prioritising deprived communities in its development plan to bridge infrastructural gaps and improve the living standards of residents across the district.
