Bawku Central MP and newly appointed Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has disclosed that he was approached to lead the majority caucus even before the 2024 general elections.
On January 23, Mr. Ayariga was officially named Majority Leader in Parliament, succeeding Cassiel Ato Forson, who now serves as the Minister of Finance.
In an exclusive interview on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Mr Ayariga shared details about his journey to the leadership position.
He revealed that discussions about his suitability to lead the majority caucus began while he was actively working with the then-minority caucus, providing strong opposition to the Akufo-Addo administration.
“To tell you the truth, towards the end, there were approaches made to me to consider leading the majority caucus after the 2024 general elections. [This was] Before the elections.”
His appointment as Majority Leader is seen as a strategic decision, leveraging his experience and leadership skills to steer the legislative agenda of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the new parliamentary session.
