The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating a campaign to intimidate New Patriotic Party (NPP) members and destroy key election documents, including pink sheets.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (Dec 11, 2024), Mr Afenyo-Markin highlighted alarming reports of harassment and threats targeting NPP officials.
Mr Afenyo-Markin revealed that the parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriye was surrounded by a group of individuals who surrounded her home in search of pink sheets.
She was forced to flee, with the police intervening to ensure her safety.
He described this incident as part of a broader, coordinated effort by the NDC to destroy evidence that could potentially challenge the election results.
“This is not democracy. Why is the NDC so determined to destroy evidence? Why are they targeting pink sheets to set them on fire?” Afenyo-Markin questioned.
He further claimed that other NPP officials, including MPs and constituency leaders, were also being threatened and harassed over the possession of election documents.
Mr Afenyo-Markin called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to intervene and put an end to what he described as an organised campaign of intimidation led by NDC members, some of whom, he alleged, had been promised high-ranking government positions.
He also raised concerns over the alleged falsification of election results in some constituencies, including Ablekuma Central constituency, where he claimed an unauthorised person had been called to declare results on behalf of the NDC.
