The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Suhum, Kwadjo Asante, has refuted reports suggesting that he has withdrawn from the 2024 Suhum parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
In an interview with Onua TV on Wednesday October 23, Mr Asante clarified that he remains fully committed to contesting as an independent candidate.
“I have not withdrawn my independent candidature,” he said.
Mr Asante opted to go independent following unresolved internal disagreements in the NPP.
He is one of four Members of Parliament whose seats have been declared vacant by the Speaker of Parliament.
The seat was declared vacant in accordance with Article 97, following his decision to contest the December 7 as an independent candidate.
The Supreme Court has since directed Parliament to suspend the implementation of the Speaker’s declaration.
