The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set for a double electoral victory in the December polls by winning the Eastern Region and ensure that Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang becomes Ghana’s first female Vice-President, Dr Mark Oliver Kevor, the Regional Chairman of the party, has said.
He noted that the NDC had in the past won the Eastern Region in the general election held in 1992 and 1996 and that the party, from all indications , was poised to repeat that history in the upcoming elections.
Dr Kevor made the observation on Tuesday in Koforidua at a ceremony to welcome the NDC running mate, Prof. Opoku- Agyemang, to the Eastern Region to begin her tour of the region.
He outlined that the people of the region, like many Ghanaians, had experienced governance under both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and would make informed decisions.
In addition to the superior record of the NDC in terms of effective governance and care for the people, Dr Kevor explained that per her personal achievement in public service, Prof. Jane Opoku- Agyemang stood out as a woman destined to set the pace and open the door of Vice Presidency to Ghanaian women.
The NDC Running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, called on the people of the Eastern Region to consider the people-oriented policies being espoused by former President Mahama and the party to vote for resetting the country to ensure that the citizens enjoyed a meaningful life irrespective of their age, tribe, location or religion.
She stated that the welfare, development and respect for women were of prime importance to former President Mahama and the NDC, and also underlined what the party intends to pursue from January 7, 2025 when it assumes the administration of the country by the grace of God.
The national youth organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, reiterated the fact that the party was in the position to win more seats in the region due to the sound programmes and intentions it has outlined before and during the current political campaign.
The NDC running mate has since ended the first phase of her tour to the Eastern Region which took her to the Akuapim South, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Suhum, New Juaben South, Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya Krobo and the Asuogyaman constituencies.
She was accompanied by Dr Alex Segbefia, former Minister of Health and campaign manager, Mr Seth Tekper, former Minister of Finance, George Opare Addo, National Youth Organiser of the NDC, Mavis Addo, former Eastern Regional Minister and, Mr James Agyenim Boateng, her spokesperson and other members of her campaign team.
