The Black Stars of Ghana, on Monday lost by a lone goal to the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the on-going Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Even though the performance of the Stars was an improvement upon what the team exhibited in the pre tournament trials, which saw them losing all three friendlies against Togo, Tunisia and Ismaila Club of Egypt respectively, the Stars could simply not convert the begging chances that came their way.
Laryea Kingston, Mathew Amoah and skipper Stephen Appiah were obviously the worse culprits as they messed glorious scoring opportunities that was created.
The Nigerians also failed in several attempts to get the opener until the 85th minute when Ismail Teye Taiwo, fired a grounder from a free-kick, which took keeper Sammy Adjei unawares for the opener, which eventually became the match winner.
The Ghanaians responded swiftly to the challenge and invaded the territory of their opponents but failed to cancel the goal despite five minutes added time from the Egyptian referee.
Line Up: Sammy Adjei, John Painstil, Addoquaye Pappoe/Joe Tex Frimpong, Samuel Osei-Kuffour, John Mensah, Issah Ahmed, Yakubu Abubakri/Has Adu-Sarpei, Laryea Kingston, Mathew Amoah, Stphen Appiah, Haminu Dramani.
