The former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila, has issued this statement following Robert Mugabe's death:
"We will forever remember the worthy son of Africa, who came to our rescue when our country was victim of a foreign aggressor. The continent has lost one of its pan-African leaders, a hero of independence.”
In 1998, Mr Mugabe sent troops to back Mr Kabila's father, Laurent, who was trying to repel rebel forces.
