The Half Assini Government Hospital in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, has been operating without a surgeon for a month.
All surgical cases that came to the Hospital were referred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional in Sekondi and or Axim Government hospitals, Assemblyman for Adowenzo electoral area at Half Assini, Mr Paul Homiah Tanoe told the Ghana News Agency on Friday.
He said, he had appealed to the Ministry Health and the Ghana Health Service to immediately post doctors and surgical doctors to the hospital to ensure quality health delivery.
Mr Tanoe said the Half Assini Government Hospital used to have two senior medical officers but expressed regret that when the only doctor at the place was transferred last month, nobody had come to replace him.
Meanwhile, some dead bodies suspected to be Ivorian refugees deposited at the Hospital are decomposing as the area is now imbued with odor posing health hazards to the people of Amanzule
The Assemblyman for the Area Mr John Kwaw Ekoboe making the appeal at Half Assini said, any further delay in burying the dead bodies could lead to outbreak of diseases.
According to him, seven Ivoirians died in a bizarre circumstance at the former Eagle Star Transit Camp at Elubo in September 2011 and their bodies were deposited at the mortuary of the Hospital by the Police for investigations to be carried.
He said frequent power outages at the Hospital had been a major problem and was part of the reason for the decomposition of the bodies.
