The Ashanti Regional Education Director, Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, has called on society to join the campaign for Girl-Child Education in order to enable them to develop self-confidence.
He said by do doing girls would become competitive and play their expected role in national development.
Mr Onyinah said this at the fourth matriculation ceremony organised by the Saint Monica's College of Education at Asante-Mampong for 196 students.
He spoke against gender discrimination that according him had kept away some young girls from school and ensnared them in many challenges.
Mr Onyinah said it was important for all to recognize the need to provide equal opportunity to boys and girls to enable them develop their
potentials.
The Regional Director advised the students saying as future female teachers, they were strategically positioned to nurture young girls to
become sufficiently empowered to face the challenges of life.
Mr Frank Musah, the Mampong Municipal Education Director, who doubles as acting Principal of the College, appealed to the Education Ministry to
increase its quota of fresh students' admission for optimal use of the school's facilities.
The total student population of the College stands at 597 but he said it has enough accommodation and classrooms to admit between 900 and 1,000 students.
Mr Pak Abdul Aziz Dakora, Headmaster of Agona Seventh-Day Adventist (S.D.A) Senior High School, advised the students to conduct themselves well to become worthy members of the teaching profession.
